James has a fast cable connection, welcomes collaboration via the internet and has a studio based around Apple computers running Pro Tools and Reason. He uses Gallien Krueger amplification, a Line6 Bass Pod Pro, a Summit Audio TD-100 tube direct box and a varied selection of bass guitars, including customized Lorimer Geilgud fretted and fretless basses, a '57 Fender Precision re-issue, a Dearmond Starfire semi-hollow bass, and an ESP 400 series Jazz Bass with midi control. He's equally at home playing and programming synths including his Roland SH101 and Moog Taurus mk1 bass pedals.

James is currently producing new and upcoming Colorado group Jody's Plastic Band, with much of their debut album already recorded. "They're the most exciting thing I've heard in years" he says, "They have everything I've ever liked about music plus tons of drive and ambition. I love them, and I'm trying to help out in every way I can. It's kind of hard with 5000 miles between us and no budget, but you know, we just try and get on with it."
